The idea of becoming a “kids minister” NEVER crossed my mind. I was a Jr. High Science teacher and a part-time youth minister for 6 years, followed by three years of full-time youth ministry. I like it–NAY—I LOVE it! I like the interaction with intelligent teens (yes I see the oxymoron I just made). Just like with teaching science, I love seeing the “I get it” moment in youth ministry, and discussing the life of Christ with teens that want to share Him with their friends. It is a job like none other, filled with relationships, frustration, pizza, dodgeball, and other awesomeness.

So here I am, beginning a new walk in my life as the “kids minister”.

How did this happen?

Well…I prayed a really stupid prayer. I prayed that God would turn my ministry upside down and take control of it. Apparently He thought that I wouldn’t let Him do that in youth ministry.

Seriously though, I started thinking a lot about our families at church. As a parent of 3, I understand the frustrations and joys of being a parent. The thing I pray about the most, is that all of my kids will love and chase after God. That they will never quite trying to find and serve Him. The thought of living that out with other families is what prompted this transition. God has called me so far out of m y comfort zone, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Please keep me and my family in your prayers, as well as the McKnight Crossings Church of Christ family as we seek after God in 2012.
